I am going to buy a notebook/laptop with Windows Vista, and I would like to install Windows XP on it. I have a few questions about it:
- Will it fully support Windows XP? Or will I have trouble with it after?
- Can I keep both operative systems, XP and Vista installed?
The possible brands of the notebooks/laptops are Toshiba, HP, Acer and Sony. Please answer as soon as possible as much as you know about it. The technicians in the store could not answer my questions. THANKS!

windows vista is really all you need. you can change it too classic view so that it will resemble windows xp. everything else should work fine.
hi there
YES!
all systems that are compatible with VISTA are compatible with XP. this is because all settings for VISTA have not been confined for just that OS. you shouldnt have a problem
People in a shop will not let you know that yuou can ut another OS on a computer, as you can get money taken away as you dont want the OS they provide!
- yes it would support xp
-yes you can keep both os, if you alredy have vista you can install xp as a dual boot but will need to reinstall vista after installing xp
if you have dual boot every time you open your computer it will ask you if you are going to use xp or vista
Yes, all laptops that has Vista can installed, you can install XP on it as well.
Also you can keep both OS under one computer, you can find guides by searching thru yahoo by using the search term “Multi booting XP and Vista”
The fact that these computers support Vista says that they will cope with XP easily. As far as I know you should be able to have both operating systems on the hard drive by partitioning it for both and choosing which one you want to run at boot up time.
running xp on a vista machine might not be the best thing to do. all the hardware manufactured is made for vista, there might not be drivers available for xp. although you could give it a try.
for the most part, things will work just fine, except for stuff like wireless lan. that has been a big problem on most computers downgrading from vista to xp. vista has vista hardware, although most of them will work just fine for xp, some components will give you trouble. but you could search for drivers from your manufacturers website. they usually have everything sorted and classified. so it is easy to find your driver. but make sure before you spend money and later regret it. call the manufacturers, talk to the people at the store.
about running xp and vista together will not work. the one that you install last will be your operating system. to dual boot both you will need a software called wingrub. it is free , just google it.
