I recently bought a Microsoft Wireless Mouse, and it has worked great up until now. My computer, which supports Vista claimed that it doesn’t recognize the wireless mouse USB when I plug the usb into the laptop. It says, “Hardware not recognized. Reccomend replacement of product.” This is the first time it has happened and I was wondering what I can do to have my computer recognize the usb receiver/hardware.

I have downloaded the most recent updates from Microsoft regarding the product, but to no avail. Additionally, I have tried to resolve the problem using the Microsoft Q&A, but it is the “hardware” of the usb that isn’t being recognized. I have also restarted my computer in 1.5 hour intervals to try and resolve the issue, but it hasn’t resolved the issue.

I would greatly appreciate any tips or advice that you may have!

If you are using the latest drivers already and the mouse have worked fine up to now, then it might be defective. Is it still under warranty?
Try a set of new batteries in the mouse….not sure if it will matter, but it might solve the issue.
Since this is a hardware issue, then most likely it is a defect. Try a different USB port. Try a different USB peripheral in the same port. If that works, then it is the mouse that has failed. If not, then it might be the port.

Try plugging it into another USB port. Also turn your computer completely off and the power plug too. Then hold the computer power button down for 30 seconds. It resets everything. You will not loose any info it just brings your computer back to a good configuration. If that doesn’t work hit the f key on restart, mine is f8 but yours maybe different. Select set my computer back to the last known good configuration.
If all that fails, go to your control panel and click the performance and maintenance key, then select system tools. Then click system restore. All you need to do now is select a time to restore your computer to when the mouse was working properly.
Hope that helps.

Try to update your USB driver to vista ready, by going to your motherboard manufacturer website, and download the updated driver.
