etsangetta asked:

I was able to obtain Mac OS 10.3 Panther and I’m looking into buying a HP Computer running Windows Vista. I want both operating systems but just one computer. And i don’t want Linux because its too open sourced for me. Is there a way to download boot camp that supports a computer running windows to have Mac OS 10.3 Panther?

Well, for starters, it is ILEGAL to install any Mac OS on a PC based computer. You will have to get either an iMac computer, or the brand new iMacs that are Intel based for the Mac OS to be installed. Nonetheless, you can install a Mac OS on a PC, as long as the Mac OS can run off an Intel processor.

However, you can run Windows Vista off any Intel-based Mac computer. And I haven’t heard anyting ilegal about installing Windows on an iMac based computer. You can get more information from the Apple Website.

I would recomend buying an iMac laptop, and installing Vista on a dual boot partition.

If you want Mac OS X, then your only legal (and easy) option is get a Mac. There should be full Vista support soon on bootcamp, also.

If you want to dual-boot Vista and Mac OS, then a Mac is your only real option. There are some emulators to allow you to run Mac OS on non-Mac hardware, but they are experimental and very buggy (the biggest issues are hardware support and drivers), plus Apple shuts them down quickly since they are illegal.

You can try vmware, they create virtual machines that can run on a host system. There are virtualized machines for various OS’s that run in indvidual windows on the host system and you can copy and paste between any open windows.

On their site there are free downloads so you can try their “player” along with many free VM’s like Solaris, Linux variations, Mac OS and Windows OS.

Since the virtualized machine “sees” standardized hardware you don’t have the problem of hardware incompatibility.
